The men behind Trump are not white supremacists, religious fundamentalists, or capitalistic imperialists. They are post-humanists. They look forward to a dead planet, and all the people who helped them achieve their goal will be killed as well.

If you asked an AI to examine how to take over the USA the response would be what Trump paraphrased as “Get me the votes.” If all you need is enough votes, it’s easy enough to achieve if you don’t believe “free will” or “human agency” are difficult things to influence.

Americans have been taught about democracy through lore, advertising, and political speech. Very little about civics is taught in schools. Americans believe it’s a wish-fulfillment system: If enough people vote for something, ANYTHING, it will be done, and we must respect the wishes of the winners.

If a Democrat wins the presidency, he (it won’t be a woman) will tell us democracy works, the Constitution works, and the conscience of the voters has triumphed. It is all wrong; American democracy is sick. If everything an Obama does can be negated by a Trump, American democracy is dying.

Here’s a one-time payment for selling your fishing pole for firewood.
Here’s a one-time payment for letting us have exclusive access to your rivers and ponds; your family can live off canned fish for months.
You’re welcome.

Already seeing tons of fellow Progressives planning to boycott voting again because their mythical “perfect” Candidate doesn’t exist. No. You will vote, and you will vote for the most viable Candidate who isn’t the Fascist Republican Nominee. It may be our last chance ever to restore Democracy.

Can we get something straight?

Putin did influence the Brexit referendum.

That's a fact.

The question remains, to what degree were those efforts effective?

Given the tiny margin...Putin's interference could easily have made the difference.

A healthy political system lets the best ideas rise to the top, and the final decisions should be difficult, based on an educated understanding of what's most needed.
We don't have that at all. We have races that are all about brand identity, and affinity to cultural identity.

I think a big part of it -- theatrically embracing obvious falsehoods -- is mocking liberals, mocking people who value principles (like honesty) above factional advantage. They do it because it pains us, because we care.
What's striking about Trump's lies, and those of his apologists, is that they're not even plausible. They don't try to be plausible. As others have noted, that's kind of the point. True authoritarian control and power is telling a blatant and obvious lie, and showing you can get away with it.
Q: Can you explain what's going on with the bandages on Trump's hand?

LEAVITT: We've given you an explanation. The president is literally constantly shaking hands.

If you can attach hundreds of millions of people to a computer network and give them instant access to each other, and information, commerce, whole new marketplaces, and instantaneous democracy; You can also entangle and ensnare these people in this network and make them do anything you want.

Young American men volunteer for military service, knowing they may have to sacrifice their lives for their country.
But they didn't volunteer to sacrifice their futures to protect the President or Secretary of Defense from being convicted of crimes.
That's not the service for which we thank them.
