"The technology to change social identity" is exactly what the captains of social media are selling. I believe the money that was dumped into Meta's R&D for "the metaverse" was not spent on chopping off avatar's legs; it was spent on a new release of these identity-twisting tools.

I always thought this was a stupid idea.
I remember 25 years ago having an online discussion with a person who sincerely believed the universe was made of numbers.
Believing we live in a simulation shows how few touchpoints some people have with reality.
