I mean I'm absolutely certain whatever they do release is going to be redacted to hell and contain none of what we want

but no, the reason this went the way it did is that nobody wanted to be on the record voting against releasing the files once it actually got to the floor so they gave up
Am I too cynical for thinking a 427 to 1 vote just means trump has made it very clear to the GOP they have found a way to not have to release shit no matter how the senate votes

can we appreciate just how badly Johnson and Trump played this Epstein vote? total failure of a pressure campaign, delayed for months to ensure it stays in the news and immediately swamps "the Dems caved" as soon as the shutdown ends, and now it passes 427-1

couldn't have gone worse if they tried

the funeral was Peak MAGA it was all downhill after everyone normal saw erika kirk coming out to her husband's funeral to WrestleMania style pyro

it was unrestrained freak shit, they put a preview of "20 years under brutal fascism" culture on display and everyone fucking hated it

yeah the fact that they dropped their own efforts to canonize Kirk in favor of trying to shank each other for pieces of his empire doesn’t help either

in retrospect this might have been the high water mark of Trump 2, they’ve been shooting themselves in the foot since
The right going full cancel culture with actual tangible effects after a decade of screaming about the basically non-existent one reaaaallllyyy isn’t going to endear them to anyone. least of which because Kirk’s always been forgotten about aside from being a punchline in photo edits

New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

I just feel like if there was the level of existentially incriminating evidence in these files that people are hyping themselves up to believing in you'd either see the GOP in total collapse or scorching the earth to prevent their release, and instead we're just seeing sullen acquiescence.

This whole saga doesn't strike me as "we think we're all going to be in jail or out of power if this gets out", it seems like "there are twenty-five grand viziers in here, all of whom have oppositional defiance disorder and none of whom know how to do anything but scream at full volume".

I feel like the model of "stonewall for months and refuse to explain anything and then just sullenly give up when the pressure mounts" comports more with this White House just being unable to not pursue everything with the same level of intensity and egomania than anything else, y'know?

when we talk about efforts to "erase DEI" can we be more precise and say "efforts to re-segregate workplaces and schools"

"When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said during a press conference. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up."
