We've all made it through the week to another #HillfortsWednesday 🥳

The supremely strong gate into Trevelgue Head defended promontory islet, Newquay, Cornwall 😮- a bridge was always necessary to cross the raging tides below

The fort enclosed a massive barrow & metal ores

Such sad news. The last surviving Battle of Britain pilot, John "Paddy" Hemingway, has died at the age of 105. So much owed to Paddy and his generation for the freedoms we enjoy today. RIP Paddy

This is the only surviving section of Dorchester's Roman wall. The ancient town of Durnovaria, was surrounded by a high wall on three sides, while its north side was protected by the river Frome. Stone for the walls was quarried in the Ridgeway quarries, a few miles away near Upwey #WallsonWednesday

Lovely sunset on spring equilux and so nice to be out in the hills in the later evening.

The sun has been warming me and my home all day, I just couldn't resist a run even though my legs are still recovering from the Grindleford Gallop race.

The reclining effigy of Rose Claxton, who died in 1601, aged just 23.

Can't help but think this looks like an uncomfortable position in which to spend eternity... but it is, nevertheless, a beautiful carving.

The second Cotswold holy well we visited at the weekend was St Kenelm's Well, Winchcombe, with its wellhouse restored in the 19th century. It is said to mark the last resting place of the saint's coffin on its journey from Romsley to Winchcombe Abbey. A popular medieval pilgrimage destination.

A beautiful and atmospheric Tim Hill photograph of St Mary’s Church, Whitby. Dating back to the twelfth century the church has been added to and restored over the centuries. Weathered by the elements over the centuries the churchyard can be bleak but tells it's own stories Image: Public Domain
