Word on the street is that the worst company in the world, Facebook, tried to rebrand into something to do with a "metaverse."

Brilliant SF writer Neal Stephenson coined that term.

Let's explore this and some other now-spooky Stephenson predictions.

The Op designed to divert public attention *away* from Epstein is called “Southern Spear”?

What were the runner-up Operation names? Wrong answers only.

Island Slammer
Tropical Bang
Caribbean Plow
The “peace president” is starting a war.
Looks like we’re going to war with Venezuela to distract from the Epstein files.

The clowns in this admin are obsessed with daily media coverage and social media criticism. It’s because they came from that world - it’s what they know. They damn sure weren’t prepared, competent or qualified to run their agencies - they did podcasts about them.

U.S. Senators who voted to confirm Kash Patel as FBI Director:

Bang-up job, guys.
Using a government jet to fly you to a girlfriends country music gig/wrestling match and then covering it up and rage tweeting about it on X is sort of a microcosm of Trumpism. thebulwark.com/p/kash-patel-fbi-director-private-jet-problem-nashville

President just suggested to an assembly of Flag Officers that we should send the military into Chicago “as a training ground.” JFC.

And then FB serves up this post from a year ago:

It’s OK to feel schadenfreude satisfaction at Kimmels’s indefinite suspension.

If you don’t see a problem with how his removal went down — try to imagine the FCC making threats against NBC unless they removed Trump as host of “The Apprentice” during the Obama administration.

Really think it's important to give props to Never Trump Republicans when they walk the walk on democracy and the rule of law, at great personal risk to themselves -->
NEWS --> Geoff Duncan, who's running for Georgia gov as a Dem after defying Trump's 2020 steal, tells me he'll oppose Trump sending National Guard into Atlanta or elsewhere.

He also condemns ICE raids and criticizes Trump for targeting liberal groups.

I cannot stress enough how the last three paragraphs of this piece are exactly why Coates voice is so important right now.
Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics.

The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.
Charlie Kirk, Redeemed: A Political Class Finds Its Lost Cause
By ignoring the rhetoric and actions of the Turning Point USA founder, pundits and politicians are sanitizing his legacy.

In frustration, I asked a law professor (Michael Libonati), "is anything in the law real?"

He replied: "Burdens."

That's why Manners' framing here is so important. The question isn't how much has Congress limited POTUS, but how much it has allowed. The burden is on POTUS to prove he's allowed.

Happy Bayonets and Liberal Arts Day, as we remember the defense of Little Round Top, Battle of Gettysburg, U.S. Civil War, and the legacy of Col. Joshua Chamberlain of Maine.

Without him, “Confederate Statues” would just be called “statues” today. Look it up. Hat tip to @pptsapper.bsky.social

Trump didn't win 50% of the popular vote.

The GOP has slim margins in both the House and Senate.

His approval ratings are tanking.

He does not have a mandate.

Do not let him gaslight you into believing he is all powerful.

He's not.

Uthmeier:

Saw your cute press conference.

You’re the same guy who spent Florida tax dollars to trick migrants onto a plane to Martha’s Vineyard for a political punchline, right?

If there is a hell, you’re headed there you loathsome toady.

Get serious, if you can. Floridians deserve better.

remember, the blitzkrieg is intended to make you feel like there is nothing you can do about it; that’s the only reason to go forward in this haphazard and sloppy manner all in the first week

and the choice of that strategy tells you they are afraid you *will* do something about it

This is wild AF. Cannon is literally like "I am just giving myself jurisdiction to personally save Trump and all of his friends..."
NEW: Following Nauta/De Oliveira's effort to get Cannon to extend her injunction against report release, DOJ says Cannon can't now: "Unless and until the [11th Cir] finds appellate jurisdiction lacking and its mandate issues, this Court lacks jurisdiction over matters encompassed within the appeal."
