I agree but this case is even worse: it appears that the detailed course description* explicitly mentions that it will explore how gender and sexuality are depicted in YA literature.
*As the reddit poster mentions, there's some confusion and possible misreporting of which course she's teaching.

This line about teaching to the course catalog description is such a pathetic cop out. Beyond academic freedom it's ignorant of how learning and knowledge creation work. "This class is supposed to be about Renaissance Italy but the professor talked about early modern Germany, I want them fired"

When Campus Reform and Turning point came after professors and created the professor watchlist, administrators didn't pay attention..Now they are being fired and attacked. Maybe institutions should have done more to protect academic freedom....

And please forgive my lack of grace here, but the student in question has clearly been coached. She doesn't appear to understand conceptually what she's trying to say. She doesn't seem to understand the Constitution or the concept of free speech. It seems as though she was fed talking points.
