"Manipulative" is a very odd word with which to critique a film. Oh the elements of the movie worked together in order to elicit an emotion? How unusual! How awful!

(Whenever I see it I suspect the actual complaint is that it's excessive, or overly blunt.)

I played Horses this weekend and I wrote down some messy thoughts not only on the game but especially on the specter of formalism that emerged to haunt us all for a moment.

I thought this was going to be a review of my time with Santa Ragione's Horses, the controversial art game recently banned from Steam and the Epic Store. To some extent, this will be that but after...

Labour hire shifts for Opera Queensland are fun because they always need flats moved and those flats are always 100% pine.

Horses' only sin is that its broad themes don't entirely pay off its loaded imagery. Otherwise, it's an effectively uncomfortable games that turns life's mundane humiliations into surreal horror. If anything, its bans fill in its thematic gaps for it. My review. www.polygon.com/horses-banne...

Normally Horses wouldn't really appeal to me (I am not a big Haneke fan - if that makes sense) but you'd better believe I'll throw 8 bucks to the "let videogames be freaky art" cause.

If I was offering a friend a room in a fucked economy, and that friend mentioned that they had just been offered a place they quite liked, I would be so sure of the rent I quoted them. Just, so completely utterly sure. Maybe even 100% sure. Yup, I really think I would go that far.

Look there's a reason why I have a series of photos of abandoned scooter helmets and it's not because this law is widely obeyed or commonly enforced.

Sirāt: Wild how the tone shift in this is both very subtle and absurdly over the top.

(Also had way more in common with Gasper Noé's Climax than I was expecting.)

Anyway, A Useful Ghost is quite possibly the only movie I've sent that I can reasonably describe as a deadpan fever dream; and that is a recommendation.

I am gonna go pack up a charity run gig in a bit. Right now I'm sitting across the river and I can hear the DJ blasting... Pumped Up Kicks. I guess it's motivational?

is this worse if there is an unspoken quid pro quo (advertising dollars) or if there isn't
Today the Australian Financial Review published a single-source article on a Gina Rinehart speech bagging BHP & Rio Tinto, #climate action etc and not even 2 of Australia's biggest mining companies - let alone anyone else - gets a right of reply
