On this day in 1945, Violette Szabo was executed in Ravensbrück death camp. She had received secret agent training in England and parachuted into France in June 1944 to fight the Nazis occupying her country. Her story is in my new book Midnight Flyboys due this Fall and now available for preorders.

RIP Victor Brombert, age 101, the last of the six Ritchie Boys I wrote about in Sons and Soldiers. Born to Russian Jewish émigrés, he grew up in France. As a member of the first armored unit to land at Normandy, he played a key role in the battle to liberate his beloved France.
