New from me for @science.org: A major planetary science conference will require submitted abstracts to comply with Trump's anti-DEI executive orders.

This conference, LPSC, is a big deal. It's been running since 1970 and is one of the biggest planetary science conferences out there. 🧪🔭
‘This is censorship.’ Conference requires abstracts to comply with Trump anti-DEI order

I called Mark Kelly’s office to ask him to vote no on any motion to proceed that does not include health care subsidies.
Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Republicans are lying, as usual.
Please share: Federal law explicitly prohibits healthcare funds going to illegal immigrants. Don't let Republican liars get away w/saying otherwise.

Only payments for emergency care are allowed, which keep hospitals from bankruptcy.

Switching gears from wizards and scallywags... I recently completed 4 oil paintings for an edition of The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov (Phantasia Press). I started with smaller acrylic color studies that served as a guide for the final art. Close-ups of each painting to follow next week!

It's full steam ahead for NASA, according to Sean Duffy, the agency's acting administrator. During an internal employee town hall, Duffy warned of "letting safety be the enemy of progress" when it comes to winning the space race, according to a recording obtained by NBC News.

If our elected leaders truly believe we're in a new space race with China, then we cannot afford to abandon space science.

Op-ed: Space Science Is Part of the Space Race with China
Beijing is pressing ahead with an ambitious space science effort designed to close the gap with—or even exceed—US capabilities in the coming decades. If our elected leaders believe that America’s cont...

PSI's Amanda Hendrix wrote a really great op-ed for the local Tucson newspaper about what's at stake in the fight against the president's budget request for NASA: tucson.com/opinion/colu...
Local opinion: Southern Arizona space science is in crisis
NASA science dollars generate $337 million in Arizona's economy each year, so the budget bill as written now would be a huge hit on the local economy.

Bad people know that one way to control people is to make them feel economically uncertain, so more of their time is spent worrying about their own precarity and less on the general welfare and/or what the bad people are doing. There's a reason the current administration is undermining the economy.
Interesting thought on the financial stability. The more stable I personally got, the more time and space I had to gather more information. The more information I had, the more accepting I got.

Hadn't really thought about that till now.

There it is.

The new administration's first ("skinny", meaning top-line) budget request.

NASA gets cut by $6.32 billion—down to $18.56 billion, or a 25.4% cut.

Gone is SLS, Gateway, and the entire Mars Sample Return project.
