Really important question: Why do Brits invariably pronounce L.A. as "Los AngeLEEs." It's not implied in the spelling or in the Spanish roots of the word.

It's also interesting given the Jewish ties to early socialist thought, and how communism was used by antisemites and Nazis as a pretext for horrors like the Holocaust: Today most people self-IDing as "communist" are more than likely to be virulent Jew haters. Funny how things change.

It's interesting how Canadians full of renewed patriotism are cancelling U.S. trips and plans over Trump's tariffs and annexation threats. It makes sense, but how about if he was just an American despot, harming LGBTQ, immigrant and racialized people in his own country: We all good with that?
