I have noticed something odd coming from the Right recently — a change in vocabulary. They are using the word “hemisphere” rather than America. They went from “Make America Great Again” to speaking about the Americas and the Western Hemisphere.

I am currently on ID consult service. I saw my first severe case of post influenza staphylococcal pneumonia of the season today - very sick patient admitted to the ICU.
Every patient I have seen so far admitted with influenza this week is unvaccinated.

To remove vaccines from ACIP guidelines, which seems to be the end goal here, is effectively a ban. If a vaccine is not recommended, Medicare/Medicaid and private insurance can refuse to cover it. Few people can afford to pay for the cost out of pocket.

Whooping cough inflicts terrible suffering on young children. I tell new parents to make it a requirement for friends and family visiting a new born, to get a TDAP booster at a minimum or delay visiting until the baby is at least 2months and has received their first pertussis vaccine dose.
Two babies have died from whooping cough in Kentucky. Neither they nor their parents had been vaccinated.
The current whooping cough outbreak in the U.S. hasn’t grabbed the media spotlight as much as measles has, but it’s important to update your vaccination if you’re going to be around babies.

Law makers have no understanding of medical ethics and the great responsibility of caring for other human beings. This is a great thread describing the ethics of using human subjects for experimentation.
This is a shocking breach of ethics by medical providers participating in this process that will likely result in major changes to our ethical framework regarding the brain dead with likely negative implications for organ donation and research in organ donor care - which is near and dear to me.
Adriana Smith had an unfortunate CNS event that left her brain dead. She was 9w pregnant when in happened. By GA law the pregnancy cannot be terminated once a heart beat is detected. She is being maintained on live support until her fetus is viable. Her family has no say.

I want to point out two things about yesterday's HHS cuts
1- a FDA office was cut that's completely funded by tobacco settlement dollars. The cut saved the US $0 but cost scientists their jobs & will result in unsafe/unregulated products on store shelves
2- state & local health depts will be harmed
