Display some adaptability.
Could be wrong, don’t know it all.
Buzzword compliant.
I do computer stuff.
> everyone knows how to mask

No, everyone does not know how to mask. They never did, and they never will.

Band of Brothers made a lot more sense when I learned that WW II-era airborne rifle platoons had three squads of infantry and a mortar section, and lacked a weapons platoon.

My wife acquired a cockatoo. Because she felt sorry for him, having allegedly been rescued from a drug dealer who was not kind to him.

Worst pet ever.
remember the lady from New York who was cursed forever by ass-biting cockatoo ownership

Accepting gold bars in person, and storing them in your own home?

Baby-town frolics. Menendez knows better.

Guy named John Scalzi wrote an okay novel called 'Old Man's War'. In it, soldiers

have computers embedded in their skulls.

I thought that was the coolest damn thing and I was taken aback when I found out other people were cool to the idea.

That is not privilege, that's an old people thing.

For every old lady you know on Facebook there are hundreds who never have, and never will, touch a computer.

Your civilization is built on software.

All of it: craftwork.

You wouldn't build a Hoover Dam with artisans. You wouldn't maintain bridges with a thousand people doing their own thing.

But there it is: the shit that keeps things going is artisanal.

I try not to think about this too much.

I've lived in one or two touristy places. It's always funny when people from out of town visit.

I don't mind them! Just funny how their view and mine didn't always square. To me it was home.
Treating people in one of the most touristed places in the United States as if they are inscrutable alien creatures is telling

The GI Bill has always been marketed as Free College.

It's one of the reasons I enlisted in 1985.

Then I didn't use it, for reasons.
The one lasting thing I remember about post 9/11 America (aside from the... everything else) is how some evil fucking genius marketed your GI Bill benefits as Free College

And so many of my friends tried to convince me to sign up

But my family is actual military historians and we know and I just

Pet peeve:

People who use 'folder' and 'directory' interchangeably.

A directory is a file system object.

A folder is a GUI metaphor that represents a directory.

These three make a total of nine chicks hatched here this summer.

Assuming they aren't all roosters, added to the existing stock of laying hens (8) we might see a fat pipeline of eggs next spring.

Dog sitting a friend's half-grown dog for a few days.

Dog has now met cats for the first time. She's fascinated!

Cats are not impressed with her nonsense.

First 'rock' song I ever heard.

Got a crystal set for Christmas. Radio Shack 'build a radio' from parts, following directions. Came with a little earplug speaker. Assembled it, plugged the battery in.

Tuned up the dial slowly .. . the first bars of 'Renegade' play and I was hooked.
ok I do still like this Styx song, which also reminds me of hanging out in Bangalore’s first and most hilariously space-themed rock bar when I was a teenager

The fun news of the day is a soldier in Korea who was on his way to CONUS for military justice, walked out of the airport, joined a tour group to the DMZ, ran across the line laughing 'HA-HA-HA'

One will still be able to write, draw, and do other human stuff in the coming dystopia / utopia.

Getting other people to pay you for it will be tricky.

Hold up. That's Elmo in fire?

I always saw that as 'Elmo as Satan reining in Hell'
⚠️ Silly Little Guy Alert ⚠️

Y'all ever seen that Elmo on fire meme?

Well, it's my favorite. My favorite meme.

And as it turns out, KnitHappensTR on Etsy happened to have the perrrrrfect pattern to try.

So I made a silly little guy. A silly little Elmo on fire meme guy.

Fitting, no? 🤔

its so fun living in a world where people want to automate away the fun jobs like writing books, writing scripts, drawing, and acting & call you stupid for saying that seems joyless & shortsighted
