me to the united states: this could be us but you playin’
A former French military base, Vauban is a thriving neighbourhood of 5,500 residents connected to Freiburg town centre by bus and light rail. Built in the late 1990s as a radical experiment in low-car living, it forgoes virtually all on-street parking in favour of active, green, and social spaces. 🧵

I am working out of a public library and there are a good number of people who seem to be on hard times using the facilities for various reasons like job searching, entertainment, charging peripherals, using the bathroom, etc., and I am struck by how important it is that libraries continue to exist

Libraries are humanities finest achievement, and the last place on earth you can get that old Blockbuster wanderlust browsing experience.

Go pick up a movie or some manga or a book or use their 3D printers for a mini or check out a sewing machine kit, like, they have so much stuff at libraries now

In this culture of rampant consumerism, the library is a bastion of counter culture. There one can check out things for free. Great books filled with profound ideas are all available for free.

It took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation.

I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!

While many professions/businesses use the term "customers" at a library you're a "patron," which I think sounds much nicer and fancier.

Remote work doesn't thwart productivity. It boosts focus.

Government workers are 12% more productive when randomly assigned to work from home. They're more efficient where it's quiet.

Most people aren't shirking from home. They're escaping distractions and long commutes.
