Good news for anyone who wanted to hear this year’s Messiah recital; our soprano recorded the performance on her phone and uploaded it to her YouTube channel:
2025 is the first year in maybe 15 where I stopped tracking what my favorite new albums were and just spent time listening to things I liked. As such, I have no Best of 2025 list and it feels liberating to be free of an obligation entirely of my own making.

Thinking a bit about Perry Bamonte today, mostly because I never knew exactly who was playing what on Cure songs past 1989 aside from Simon, Roger, and Boris/Jason and as such I don’t know which songs really showcase what he brought to the band.

I had no idea when I wrote this that I’d find out about Perry Bamonte’s passing today. RIP
It is astonishing to me how much I like Songs of a New World, even in the context of being extremely in the tank for The Cure as a band.
This why it’s great when bands I’m into put out new music; I get to fall in love with them all over again.

I don’t begrudge anyone singing any song; I really think performers should follow their bliss and let the chips fall where they may. That said, I’m very confused as to who the audience for Andrea Bocelli singing “Hallelujah” actually is.

The Just King Things people describe it well, saying it starts off like Babe Ruth hitting home run after home run, but then occasionally whacking himself in the balls instead. But then by the last third he's just *slamming* that baseball bat into his own crotch.

My favorite thing about this is that I had no context for what it was about and yet the first thought I had was “did someone write something about LCD Soundsystem”
I am not sure you can say a band has written the “millennial American Pie” and then also be shocked they have “become cringe”
