The latest Angus Reid Institute opt-in survey claims Carney’s approval rating declined by 6 points. The latest questionnaire differed in an important way. The latest survey inserted a question about how Canada was performing in general before asking about approval of Carney.

As we say on the internet, "some personal news."

After 39 years on the job I am retiring as an NYU professor.

In this thread I will take a few moments to reflect on my academic career.

Spoiler alert: I am not leaving the field, or the fight for a public service press. 1/

Last two @abacusdataca election polls demonstrate why one should use demographic results of opt-in polls with extreme caution. On the eve of the election Abacus reported that Liberals had a 14-point lead among persons 18-29. Their next poll had CPC up by 9-points in this demo.

The internet has numerous stories of Lutnick claiming companies will pay *higher* taxes under Trump, exploding Trump’s tariffs-will-replace-taxes strategy.

Trump/Lutnick contradict Trump’s tariff strategy by claiming the gold card will create jobs for people *who will pay taxes*. Facebook and Instagram have removed video receipts but our FP had the story.

Eventually the Adams case will trickle down to someone who will just follow orders and dismiss it.

Make that person historically infamous.

(Recall it was Robert Bork who eventually followed Nixon’s order to fire Archibald Cox)
NEWS - As soon as DOJ's Public Integrity Section was informed it would be taking over Mayor Adams case, John Keller, the acting head of the unit and his boss, Kevin Driscoll, the senior most career official in DOJ's criminal division resigned, according to multiple sources.

Danielle Sassoon resigned Thursday as the acting US Attorney for the Southern District of New York. It follows the Justice Department’s directive to drop the case against Mayor Eric Adams.

“Jacobs bought her home for $7,000 in 1947, rehabilitated it, and sold it 24 years later for $45,000. …Five years after that interview, it sold again, for $3.3 million; today, the city assesses it at $6.6 million.”
"Blame Jane Jacobs," @yappelbaum.bsky.social says. Among other sins, she "cast the displacement of a dynamic working-class community of immigrant renters in the 1950s by a stable, gentrified population of professional-class homeowners as a triumph." www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

“What a fiasco for Trump!”
Just hours after Trump’s allies cheered when he imposed 25% tariffs on Colombian goods, Colombia responded by imposing reciprocal 25% tariffs on goods imported from the US. In addition, Colombian President Gustavo Petro said the time of being a close US trade ally is over.

This isn’t just a moronic lie.

It’s more than an insult against an ally.

Trump is using disinformation to justify applying unwarranted & hugely mutually damaging tariffs as a tactic to try to force an ally into giving up its sovereignty.

It’s a hostile takeover attempt. Or overt economic warfare.
Trump: "We're gonna be demanding respect from other nations. Canada, we have a tremendous deficit with Canada. We're not gonna have that anymore. As you probably know, I say you can always become a state. If you're a state, we won't have a deficit, we won't have to tariff you."
