Today marks 41 years since the night in the Preservation Hall on Victoria Street when I chatted up the current Mrs Pete with the immortal line “I wonder if I could get my arm all the way round your waist”. 😂

When she was young my late mum would buy postcards from places she visited and write details of the visit on the back. Her and dad were married on 17th March 1951 in Alloa and stayed at the North British (X marks the room) on their way to their honeymoon. In Ripon for some reason.
An old postcard of the North British Station Hotel (currently The Balmoral) on Pronces Street. There is an X marked on the west side of the hotel indicating the room that was stayed in. The back of the postcard. It reads as follows. Start first day of honeymoon here. 17th-18th March, 1951. Left for Ripon at 11 o’clock Sunday morning. Very posh.

A new place for me in Central Edinburgh. The quiet garden at the end of the terrace above Victoria Street. I especially like the wee howff and roof garden you can see above one of the Grassmarket buildings.

I took my DSLR for a walk round the very peaceful Dean Cemetery yesterday. The autumn colours were fabulous. I was touched by the wee wooden cross with the poppy between all the stone monuments.
