I have to say, I'm really, truly proud of this piece. Not because I think it's particularly good, but because of what it means for me as someone who used to love writing and just kind of.. stopped doing it. For like, 15 years. I really enjoyed the process of researching and writing and revising.
I wrote something! Thanks to the amazing retro gaming posts and accounts on this site, I was inspired to do the research into where a game's vibe and aesthetics come from and I attempt to talk about it here, for the first of hopefully many deep dives, with Deus Ex.
