the other thing about fumiko’s character that has fallen into place with this chapter is her juvenile and childish behavior. she’s still emotionally fourteen, frozen and unable to truly grow ever since her mind was fractured by the contract

okay. lets talk about this for a second. people are being like "wtf fujimoto std devil ???" but just like. read every single panel dialogue fumiko says. not simply as fumiko the character but what fumiko represents within the context of this dialogue. what fumiko represents in society
i dont talk about chainsaw man these days because im in learn to sit back and observe mode but this chapter feels like another example of fujimoto being as openly literal with the storytelling as possible with what is going on but readers are missing it because of reaction shock value 😭

The "you have to be insane to last as a devil hunter" quote doesn't just apply to the devils you fight. Kishibe was talking about the system that throws young people to their inevitable deaths and teaches survivors to be abusive and distant. Like he himself became once he got older and quanxi left.

i actually really disagree with the idea that fujimoto trolls his readers or otherwise writes in a maliciously deceitful way
he misleads us and subverts expectations that he lead us to have in the first place, but never are details truly red herrings nor is any character entirely purposeless
