I'm looking for other rural progressives. If you exist let know. I'm a blue dot in a red zone in a blue state. My family has held space in these mtns for multiple generations, almost 75 years. We've been here longer than many of our conservative neighbors and I often feel alone

I’m going to be extremely old here and ask what is even meant by sticking ‘core’ to a random noun and using it as a descriptor for your book/game/thing. What even is “wizardcore”?

There’s nothing dumber than a bunch of jackasses celebrating Independence Day after they’ve installed a king.

Ouch

"Maybe you worked with Food Not Bombs and made a clip-art anarchist zine back when you lived in a punk house, but a moderately popular Bluesky user has never heard any of those words before and is filing you under 'wine moms 4 Kamala.'"
The cringe-ification of protest
Social media is undermining the power of protest by framing it as "cringe," making the front line of change weaker.

and I loved Catcher in the Rye as a late adolescent. It had a place in my mind during one of many transitions in my life. I don't still cling to it now or run to defend Salinger

We're about to have some electrical work done and the electrician warned us some components are going to cost significantly more because of...tariffs

I thoroughly enjoyed Dogs of War by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I chose this cover depiction because it's the closest to how I imagine Rex. He and the rest of the multiform assault pack, Honey, Dragon and Bees, have all stayed with me.

Also, interlibrary loan for the win

Something about a fool and their money

We have incredible strawberries here. Unfortunately supermarkets aren't where you find them. Farmstands are the way
I tried the viral $20 strawberry. It tasted like the end of the American empire
A single strawberry flown in from Japan is selling for $20 in a hip LA grocery store. Does it symbolize the worst of American excess, or is it simply delicious?

Older maga voters in my town get their monthly food bank distribution from local churches and misunderstand where it really comes from. As more people need help and less is available it will be an interesting wake-up call
The Agriculture Department has axed two programs that gave schools and food banks money to buy food from nearby farms and ranchers. Roughly $660 million that schools and child care facilities were counting on to purchase food has been canceled.

This will hurt both kids and small, local farmers.
USDA cancels $1B in local food purchasing for schools, food banks
States have been notified that they will not receive 2025 funding for schools to buy food from nearby farms.

To my chicken peeps. Pls get more familiar w good biosecurity. You should not be stepping into other people's chicken pens & vice versa. Nor visiting petting zoos, wildlife parks or feed stores w/o disinfecting your shoes after. Avian Influenza is spread by fomites. We take flock safety seriously

Also the idea that the demise of humanity is going to come because no one's having babies anymore is pure idiocy
He wants so desperately to be profound, but instead this stuff comes across as super weird and uncomfortable.

Some people get excited about reaching 250,000 followers. Me over here, I'm just tickled to reach 250 in 3 months when I was on twitter for years and barely got to 100. The good thing I guess is that I'm completely desensitized to shouting into the void

This is delightful. Travel well, sir. High school me waited for every episode of Twin Peaks and stayed up late reading Laura Palmer's diary like an obsessed weirdo. It was so dark and deliciously bizarre I'm still surprised it was on network TV
