Good morning with good news: US wind & solar surge, generating 83 TWh in March 2025, up ~20% from 69 TWh in March 2024.

W&S were 24.38% of US electricity in March 2025

March W&S generation:

2025 83 TWh
2024 69 TWh
2021 52 TWh
2020 39 TWh
2015 18 TWh

4X since 2015 & 2X since 2020!

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

The coming worldwide recession should help push fossil fuel use lower.😭
Your 'moment of doom' for Apr. 8, 2025 ~ The wrong direction.

"Emissions from the [power] sector increased by 1.6% year-on-year, to reach a record high of 14.6bn tonnes of carbon dioxide (tCO2). This increase was predominantly due to a 4% growth in electricity demand worldwide...."
Power-sector CO2 hits ‘all-time high’ in 2024 despite record growth for clean energy  - Carbon Brief
Global power-sector emissions hit an “all-time high”, despite solar and wind power continuing to grow at record speed, according to analysis from Ember

To the surprise of no one in Texas rn, wind power hit a record last night at 28,470 megawatts. (It's *very* windy here today.) Another day of nearly 75% of demand met by renewables and 85% emission free.

Any thoughts on why the latest llnl energy flow chart has an increase in rejected energy from electricity generation?

2021,2022 hovered around 19 Quads, while 2023 has jumped to 24.3 Quads. The amount of electricity produced remained roughly at 13 Quads.

I know this will shock many of you... but Michael Shellenberger is attached to a sham front group ostensibly about protecting right whales that was only created a few years ago in order to keep offshore wind from out-competing natural gas.

This shot of the moon is fantastic.
It's 3 months since my first post on Bluesky. It started an experiment to compare with X/Twitter and I found the contrast remarkable. To thank you, here's a photo of the Sun & the giant sunspot group which generated the amazing May 10th global aurora being photobombed! #astrophotography #astronomy

The beginning of the opaque Trump administration that will permanently change the voice of the American people.
President-elect Trump is keeping the names of the donors who are funding his transition effort secret, in a break from tradition that could make it impossible to see what interest groups, businesses or wealthy people are helping launch his second term.
Trump Is Running His Transition Team on Secret Money
Breaking with past practice, President-elect Donald J. Trump has not agreed to disclose the donors paying for his planning effort or to limit their contributions.

Mind boggling hour on the seas yesterday.

For over an hour before sunset this humpback whale breached dozens of times, at one point breaching only 36 seconds after their previous dive

When you remember adult humpbacks weigh as much as OVER A DOZEN OF MY VAN, it's absolutely astonishing #MarineLife

Santa, the tooth fairy, an honest lawyer and an old drunk were walking down the street when they saw a $100 bill on the sidewalk. Who picked it up?

The drunk, of course – the other three are imaginary.
