Your power bill has tripled and you can't afford new PC parts just to create this.

1) USPS did not lose $3.3b. It provided a service that cost $3.3b. *The Pentagon* loses you money, however, every time it accidentally yeets a fighter jet off the deck of a carrier
NEW: The U.S. Postal Service posted a net loss of $3.3 billion in this fiscal year’s second quarter mainly due to “significant challenges out of our control,” including workers’ compensation costs, Luke Grossmann, USPS chief financial officer, said at the open session of the governing board meeting

Do not fall for the lies of c-suites. Not making enough money for endless growth goons is not “inherently unprofitable.” Media is very challenging, yes, but the vultures want you to believe these layoffs are inevitable and necessary.

doom and gloom aside, we just recently committed to publishing even more freelance work as part of our subscriber drive, and we’re (finally) gonna post an actual pitch guide next week. for now, though, hit up inbox@aftermath.site if you’ve got a cool idea. our rates are pretty good
our goal pie in the sky goal is to staff up to the point where we’re maybe half the size of defector, which is still… not all that big. layoffs like the ones at polygon decimate what’s left of the ecosystem, and many affected will be forced to leave games media entirely
indie games media is great! and good! and worthwhile and absolutely deserves your support. all my homies love indie games media

but it just doesn't scale, and the systemic collapse of certain levels of this job's ecosystem wreaks havoc on the overall economic ladder for everyone involved

Killing all gaming media on the eve of a big console launch and a few months before what will likely be the biggest video game of all time is smart and well thought-out business from people that definitely do not spend all day eating their own shit.

Pouring one out for Polygon, the website I have the longest posting relationship with. You guys did amazing work and the games media and criticism world will be worse without these writers.
