Do not fall for the lies of c-suites. Not making enough money for endless growth goons is not “inherently unprofitable.” Media is very challenging, yes, but the vultures want you to believe these layoffs are inevitable and necessary.

doom and gloom aside, we just recently committed to publishing even more freelance work as part of our subscriber drive, and we’re (finally) gonna post an actual pitch guide next week. for now, though, hit up inbox@aftermath.site if you’ve got a cool idea. our rates are pretty good
our goal pie in the sky goal is to staff up to the point where we’re maybe half the size of defector, which is still… not all that big. layoffs like the ones at polygon decimate what’s left of the ecosystem, and many affected will be forced to leave games media entirely
indie games media is great! and good! and worthwhile and absolutely deserves your support. all my homies love indie games media
but it just doesn't scale, and the systemic collapse of certain levels of this job's ecosystem wreaks havoc on the overall economic ladder for everyone involved
