Scott Bessant says beef prices are high—not because Trump killed our beef trade with tariffs, not because Trump gave Argentina $40B, not because China is now buying Argentinian beef instead of American beef—but because migrants are illegally crossing the border & bringing their cows with them.😑

They are trying to convince Boebert to drop her support for the release of the Epstein files. “Remember the Kirk” is the battle cry! Or is it remember the Alamo? No matter, people were sacrificed to keep wickedness in place, and that’s what we should remember.

It’s not even conservative coded. The traditional values claimed by conservatism--respect for family, personal responsibility, dignity, concern for the community--belong to left-liberalism
My most conservative trait is rapidly becoming how much I find this kind of behavior morally degenerate
Man, being VP and publicly saying you want your Hindu wife to convert is so disrespectful

Meiselas: We’re 24 days into the government shutdown, and Trump left the country — the first president in U.S. history to leave the country during a shutdown.

This, while food lines are being seen throughout the United States. This is Trump’s America. Food lines like we saw in COVID are back.

It's amazing the degree to which this country is being taken over by nazis. Meanwhile, a solid portion of the left from centrist libs to leftists are defending a fucking totenkopf tattoo.

This is bleak as hell.
NEW: CU Boulder sophomore Nathaniel Ellis has been identified as a member of the white supremacist groups Patriot Front and Active Club.

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?

Who is Laura Loomer? Where did she come from? Why does she look like that? I prefer that people I dislike are typical looking so their looks don’t influence my opinion, but she is just so odd—did she have botched surgery? Maybe I should have some empathy for her.

Do we know if the videographer who accidentally turned off Trump’s elevator is OK? Is he in a detention facility somewhere? He’s still alive, I presume.

The All Lives Matter crew have certainly worked themselves into a lather trying to convince us that this is no longer the case.

I have offspring, one of whom will be 22 soon. I can’t organize my thoughts on this, but it’s something like: came of age with a classless, lawbreaking, narcissist President; school derailed by a pandemic; no hope about future, angry to be here, A Clockwork Orange type of give a fuck nihilist.

There was another school shooting today where three teens were critically injured. Prayers for their healing, and for their loved ones.

I heard there was another school shooting today where at least one person was killed; let us take a moment to consider the young man who died while condemning gun violence. I pray for his family, and those who loved him; may they put away the tools of war & hate, and work for peace.

The rightwing “fuck your pronoun” people will absolutely use the incorrect pronoun for cisgender people if they are trying to insult you; they don’t mind lying.

Trump’s militarization of Los Angeles seems to have been just the start of an authoritarian takeover of American cities.

This is not leadership. This is a scary, unlawful grab for power, and we should all be deeply concerned.

People keep saying that the US is nothing like Nazi Germany. OK sure, maybe ICE is more like Lord’s Resistance Army of Uganda, or Mao’s Red Guard; but if we had the capacity for proper manufacturing, we would have large scale gas chambers by now.

Meanwhile in Utah, 13 is the age of consent for sexual congress with an adult, so no problems there!
bsky.app Bluesky @bsky.app · Aug 22
Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it
AI Is a Mass-Delusion Event
Three years in, one of AI’s enduring impacts is to make people feel like they’re losing it.
