Our mango tree dropped us a few gifts, so we pulped and strained some nectar. I don’t know how else to describe it, but my kid drank most of this poem.

Before the election, I warned that there is no safe haven under authoritarianism.

If they can ship Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a foreign prison—accused of no crime, with no trial—they can do it to anyone.

Americans of conscience must stand against this now.

99.99% of the time you're going to be the first and last person to read it. If it ever gets in front of another human, it has already survived the insurmountable odds of your own self-rejection, and the odds become much more grim after that. Just go ahead and write whatever you want!

Shifting my focus to what really matters: the thought process of the small creature who had a Robyn dance party at low tide and neglected to invite me.

Feeling miffed, but deep down, glad it happened.

We should all be so lucky.

Write because you are going to run out of everything else: time, money, fucks to give. But you will never run out of your own bullshit. You could live forever on this unlimited fuel of emotional damage and charm. Plus people think you're funny. You're such a good writer. Live más.

Do you take caregiving absences from poetry and then doubt everything about yourself

(this is also part of the writing life)
Poets are getting to know each other on bsky, so how hardcore are you? Do you read more than an hour's worth of poetry daily? Do you write daily when you can? Do you have lines of poetry tattooed on your body? Do you spend food money on books?

Just trying to get to know my poet-neighbors here :)

This is still my advice: Become a writer anyway. Fuck it, do it, it won't save you, but it's still a beautiful dream to write novels and short stories and poems and mingle with other dreamers and make art and laugh in the face of death. And writing is constant death. Live más.
