I don't think the Justices understand the extent to which they are playing with fire. The more they do this, the more District Courts will engage in open disrespect of the Supreme Court, because what other response is there to open disrespect directed at them? That's bad for the Judiciary, period.

Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

For a far-right ideologue, "Prove me wrong" comes along with the intention to refuse to acknowledge any proof of an idea one disagrees with. The point is to put on a show of not being proven wrong, and to use this bluff to convince people that the far right wins the debate.

I am a *lawyer who practices federal law.* Several times a week I see a headline that makes me think "there's no way the President can do that, right?" and I look into it and it turns out that maybe he can because Congress ceded some of its power in the What's the Worst That Could Happen Act of 1983

My prediction is that in that scenario, he blames the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which puts out employment data. Calls them corrupt, run by Democrats, out to get him. Fires people there, insists their numbers cannot be trusted, White House puts out its own fictitious data to make Trump look good

OK, I've read the injunction opinions once. I'll read them again and think about them some more. For now:

This Court either doesn't think they're staring down fascism, or they do. At this point, I'm not sure what would be worse. Because either way they are making law that helps fascists.

When was there a protest when, in retrospect, things would have turned out better if a couple ppl in the crowd had been carrying guns?
This is a textbook example of how, when the shooting starts, its almost impossible to tell who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

Three civilians brought guns to a non-violent protest march. A bystander is shot dead by a peacemaker when he opens fire on a person lawfully carrying. So we have a near shoot out by "good guys" with guns and a bystander fatality. Will Utah amend its law? Never!

We’ve normalised a political climate where mocking your own constituents for being queer, Palestinian, or visibly different is a winning move. That’s not democracy functioning. That’s epistemic decay, where truth and dignity are replaced by clicks and clout.

I see a lot of people falling into the "this is pointless" trap, and I can only say it so many ways — though I suspect I will have to write something specifically about it on this front — but the bottom line is that we must expect compliance. Anything less is just making noncompliance easier.
