I get why it happens but goddamn do I wish anything could hit as hard on the timeline as something that sucks that everyone hates written by or about the worst person you know. I wish something good or interesting was able to get anywhere near the traction some shit that sucks does.

RIP Todd Snider. Sad for selfish reasons (hoped for decades more great music, shaken when anyone around my age dies) but also because his last days were so troubled.

the first Snider song i ever heard. high school scholastic bowl bus coming back from a competition, maybe 1997?

a kid put this on the boombox and i remember thinking that, sure, it was funny, but mostly i had NO IDEA you could make music like this.

I was hooked.

I don’t think that Robert Christgau would mind my sharing that when he came out of anesthesia after his back surgery in Little Rock in 2020, the first thing he asked for was “more Todd Snider”

“Giving up a dream is just like making one come true.

It's easy to sit around talking about, it's harder to go out and do.

But for this one last question, I'll give up on this song.

Where will I go now that I'm gone?"

Here is the website NIMBYs have set up to oppose a Permanent Support Housing project in Kirkwood. They would rather people sleep in the freezing temperatures outside than see this development be built on church property.
