Husband, father, doctor, music freak, fly fisher, member of acclaimed indie band Fox Green, in approximately that order.
I don’t think that Robert Christgau would mind my sharing that when he came out of anesthesia after his back surgery in Little Rock in 2020, the first thing he asked for was “more Todd Snider”

Kris and I lived in walking distance of the Big Star on Ponce in Atlanta a long time ago. We moved to Arkansas 7+ years ago and there were still 2 Big Stars alive in AR- the one near Quitman went under soon after, this one in Dumas maybe was the last one standing? RIP

This is seminal and I for one and going to spend the next few months creating a physical version of this that sits next to my Giddens jazz roadmap. Kudos Rod!
of course I wish you'd listen to the nearly 90 hours of playlists for Brazilian music I made. They're pretty great! But life is too short for non-fanatics, so I made something more digestible. More details below, but here's the link.

Not sure any of you pay attention but this year’s Giro d’Italia was one of the most exciting GTs in my memory. Congrats to Simon Yates, WVA is back, Visma is on fire, and great top 10 GC finish for Brandon McNulty

I have a lot to say about David Thomas and Pere Ubu right now, but I think Carola Dibbell had more to say a long time ago:

Well, I am officially on Bluesky. For now, I think my work posts will stay on the other site, and my personal posts will be here. I look forward to reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. I am wide open to advice about how to best take advantage of this version of social media.
