This piece about Bill Gates' about-face on climate is essential. But anyone who read his book How To Avoid A Climate Disaster ought not be surprised.
Perhaps I’m being too optimistic but I doubt he’ll drift any further to the right when it comes to environmental issues. He’s simply removing Poilievre’s biggest vote-getter. If that’s what it takes to prevent a CPC victory that’s fine by me.
I’d take this type of technocratic leader over Trump everyday.
I also think this type of move is bad, esp. since “national unity” is natural with Trump on the other side of the border.
But if the key word here is “consumer” then let’s see if other types of things (CBAM?) might be on the horizon.

The consumer carbon tax is not working. It’s become too divisive — at a time when Canada needs to be united.

You can’t skinny dip into the rubicon, you must cross if you want to succeed. Starting a coup and failing to go through with it is beyond pathetic. To be clear, I’m glad he didn’t succeed, I’m simply providing my view from a value neutral perspective.
