Good to know. I’ll have to borrow books more frequently.
Authors receive a payment every time you borrow a book, audiobook or ebook from libraries in 35 countries. Those countries include the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany to name but a few. Borrowing a book helps the author’s pocket as well as yours.

Awful. But I'm surprised the NYT is reporting this. I suspect that now that the Trump administration is the face of this sadism (and that Gaza has already been destroyed) they feel comfortable reporting this.
The article is worth reading but the timing should be noted.
The Department of Homeland Security denied Mahmoud Khalil permission to attend the birth of his first child, who was delivered at a New York hospital on Monday, according to emails reviewed by The New York Times.
Mahmoud Khalil’s Son Arrives After ICE Refuses to Let Him Attend Birth
Mr. Khalil, a permanent resident detained in Louisiana, had requested a monitored furlough for the birth. His request was denied in less than an hour.

The more I study and visit so-called Global South countries, the more I learn about their problems related to the carbon economy and climate disasters, the more I am convinced that they represent the future, not the past, of the Global North.

Rules for thee, not for me. JD Vance wasn’t picked because he was a plumber. How can anyone on the right still believe this bile.
How many people who work at the Heritage Foundation don't have postsecondary education? Do you think they are telling *their* kids to skip college in order to have more babies? It's always someone else's sacrifice.
Heritage: "reducing federal higher education subsidies and loan cancellation that place the federal thumb on the scale in favor of spending years in postsecondary work of questionable value will help young Americans to start and expand their families." www.heritage.org/education/re...

Perhaps I’m being too optimistic but I doubt he’ll drift any further to the right when it comes to environmental issues. He’s simply removing Poilievre’s biggest vote-getter. If that’s what it takes to prevent a CPC victory that’s fine by me.
I’d take this type of technocratic leader over Trump everyday.

I also think this type of move is bad, esp. since “national unity” is natural with Trump on the other side of the border.

But if the key word here is “consumer” then let’s see if other types of things (CBAM?) might be on the horizon.
The consumer carbon tax is not working. It’s become too divisive — at a time when Canada needs to be united.

As my government’s first order of business, I have cancelled it.

Each time you see a targeted ad, your personal data has just been exposed to thousands of advertisers & data brokers through a process called "real-time bidding" (RTB).

This lets data brokers harvest & monetize your online activity, which fuels government surveillance. 🧵(1/11)

They won’t actually do anything. A few deportations here and there, more near the midterms, especially in swing states and districts, but I expect Trump to return to Obama’s first term immigration policies (his border Tsar worked for Obama and he’s just a talking head anyway). Performative sadism.

They’re simply recalibrating themselves to the post-woke consensus. Outlets like the FT telegraphing the change as a genuine change of heart is hilarious, but it does tell you that most companies have, correctly, concluded that MAGA is a better cover and vehicle for their interests. 1/x

The Blob needs to get the buy in of right wing young men if they want to have any hope of solving their recruitment crisis. This is why they picked a dim witted showboat like Hegseth to be the face of the DoD. Every shrill liberal reaction does nothing but bolster his credentials to RWYM.
Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Defense, refused to answer a question regarding whether he’d follow an order from Trump to shoot at demonstrators.
Pete Hegseth, Trump’s Pick for Defense Secretary, Won’t Say If He’d Refuse Order to Shoot Protesters
Trump has stated multiple times his intention to use the military to crush demonstrations he opposes.

You can’t skinny dip into the rubicon, you must cross if you want to succeed. Starting a coup and failing to go through with it is beyond pathetic. To be clear, I’m glad he didn’t succeed, I’m simply providing my view from a value neutral perspective.

I'm really proud of it, and I hope you read it.
