Like Ryan North's old campaign to reduce Wikipedia lies by allowing vandalism only about chickens, the couch thing has proven that fake news is acceptable only about JD Vance.

Therefore, let us state with absolute certainty...

JD Vance killed the pope.

For today's New York Times Magazine I made my contribution to Ghibli AI meme discourse, arguing that (1) Ghibli memes suck (duh) but more importantly (2) they help us understand the Trump regime's spectacle-based approach (and our whole dematerialized image-feed culture).
Why the White House Started Making Deportation Cartoons
The Trump administration hasn’t yet delivered huge deportation numbers — but it is using the internet to provide regular deportation spectacles.

Yes, “easy” rarely equates to “better.”
If you notice, the big 'pitch' used by AI developers is making things 'easy'.

If they can sway people to pay for easy, then the more expensive but REAL items they replace are systematically eliminated. AI is trying to kill off writers and artists today.

Are you worried that merchants are trying to sneak unfit eels into your town? Should you be?

This was an ongoing concern in medieval London, & so the city had customs workers who unpacked, inspected, & repacked all suspicious barrels of eels.

Which, really, is not a great job.

Was descending while diving today:

realized a peacock mantis shrimp was directly beneath me, looking up at me with its swivel eyes what I can only describe as a look of crustacean fascination

Great Polish poets were born in cities that no longer belong to Poland. Now Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine. My people claim the imagined place.
