People who use social media to fight are not, usually, very interesting. It's the people who use social media to express themselves who are, and they aren't going to do that in a place that feels uncomfortable, no matter how valuable it might seem.

Went out for drinks with comrades after a very successful DSA meeting last night. Starting to understand why people get really into this whole political organizing thing, it's really satisfying to bring people together and do stuff!

There's something telling about how the left's most hated public figures for "war crimes" are men who had no legal authority to order the things they are accused of masterminding. Criticism of Bush and Nixon isn't exactly uncommon, but it's rarely as vituperative.

I've always wanted to build one of these... With modern linear vibrators and IMUs I bet it could be completely unobtrusive and have multi-day battery life.
There was a study years ago that gave people a belt that always vibrated in the direction of north. People pretty quickly stopped feeling it, but reported having vastly improved spatial perception. It's amazing how quickly we can incorporate a new sense.

Kinda surprised how quickly the vibe here turned against Plattner. Was kinda expecting a lot of "well perhaps he's a sincere convert" "no one is more radical than veterans" "at least he fights" kind of stuff from the left. Maybe just not enough people had formed an emotional attachment to him.

The most fun stage of this I experienced was the weird egg cracking prodrome when I was planning for my transition without directly thinking about it, like "Ok, once I have some savings here I'll look for a job in the city and try to make some new, queer friends and then [REDACTED]."

I'm not worried about the rich and powerful manufacturing consent, that always happens to some degree. I'm worried that the consent machine is broken and we're in a world where mass persuasion and democratic decisionmaking simply don't exist anymore.
