I haven't really been here in a while, and I hate that for myself. This is such a good platform and I want to make friends. Maybe even sell some art. But I have honestly been dealing with a deep depression (big shock with the world today as it is) and I've barely even been arting anything.. sigh.

YOU (yes, YOU, the person reading this, I swear to fuck I'm talking to YOU) MUST do EVERYTHING YOU CAN to remain on this side of the ground. They want us to not exist. They want to pretend we're not real. They want to pretend we don't matter. And the biggest act of defiance any of us can do, the best way any of us can fight them, is to continue existing in spite of all they do.

I am furious, filled to the brim with rage. But I am going to retreat into art until I feel calm enough to do anything. Bc even small acts matter. Listen to someone who's facing direct consequences of all this horseshit, make them feel heard and seen. That matters. Every act of kindness matters.

Been thinking about this a lot (not tagging the sender, for their privacy). Most of us won't have the chance for for grand, capital-R Resistance heroics. But every one of us will have a thousand small choices to make about how to live our lives and where to draw lines. Use them well.

He just walked to the board and wrote this: "EVERYONE WANTS TO SAVE THE WORLD, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO HELP MOM DO THE DISHES." We all laughed. But then he went on to say this to my students: "Statistically, it's highly unlikely that any of you will ever have the opportunity to run into a burning orphanage and rescue an infant. But, in the smallest gesture of kindness -- a warm smile, holding the door for the person behind you, shoveling the driveway of the elderly person next door -- you have committed an act of immeasurable profundity, because to each of us, our life is our universe."

i started writing "there are still roses" the day after the election. it was a response to everyone trying to find moments of beauty & hope in the sea of despair.
