30 days of memorials part 1.

Portadown, Co. Armagh.

The bronze sculpted soldier’s helmet has fallen back, revealing his head. This denotes fortitude, courage, and sacrifice for his country. Both the angel and the soldier stand on a base of sandbags and a gas mask, which represent the battlefield.

*visible sweating* Gad damn what a game! @leeparnell.bsky.social and I locked horns in an absolute slug fest. Right down to the wire. The very last roll of the die of my Cheiftains not getting back into the assault was absolutely incredible.

Cracking first outing for the Berlin Brigade!

I used to work at a small shop that made little plastic vampires.

There were only 2 of us working there, so I had to make every second count.

Bought and assembled Cheapass Games' pdf "One False Step" which is about building rockets and firing the inhabitants of 1859 California to the moon in order to become governor. Yes, really.

Turns out to be a combination of expanding towns while also upgrading rocket systems. 3 players. I lost.

Weekend #wargaming—some players thought the standard “Wings of Glory” scenario I run should be, well, even harder, so I’m adding dynamic weather in the form of moving clouds to unpredictably obscure bombing targets. Didn’t hurt it gave me an excuse to acquire a new map as well.

1798 rebellion. As per history, the French utterly failed to turn up and, despite a brief capture of Belfast, the United Irishmen were pushed into Donegal and I won.

Playtesting The Charge, a light-hearted wargame about the charger of the light brigade. I got 67 of required 70 victory points here. So close. But then I also lost most of the light brigade, so it was a grand failure which unfortunately I couldn't blame on a subordinate.
