if the Montgomery bus boycott activists had been greeted with racist smiles while being violated, . . .

when top executives institute trash policies and make frontline workers bear the brunt of them instead of admiting they were wrong and correcting the policies.

"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.
They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.
If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."
🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

"If Amazon is taxing merchants 45-51 cents on every dollar they make, and if merchants are hiking their prices everywhere their goods are sold, then it follows you’re paying the Amazon tax no matter where you shop – even the corner mom-and-pop hardware store."
This is so good from Cory Doctorow on all the tricks Amazon uses to get both consumers to pay more, and how businesses on the platform end up paying it 45-51 cents on every dollar.
Plus he rightly calls for regulatory change, not just individual consumer action

This is not only an indictment on Trump but on lawmakers in Congress. This judge just reminded them of their duties as elected officials. That they have to be reminded that it is unconscionable for people to go hungry in America, tells you your life means nothing to them.

Rough afternoon/early evening. I'm not sure how many ICE abductions in our area. Too many. Sending love to everyone impacted by this violence. Grateful to everyone who patrolled and documented. They're not done, and neither are we.

Many thanks to everyone who preordered a copy. Preorders are so important to getting books on bookstore shelves. I hope those of you who have already received a copy are finding the book useful. I was also honored to gift some copies to Chicago ICE watchers at a protest I organized last night.

Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
