"The US accounts for 13% of global goods imports. Even if the US cut off all goods imports, 70 of its trading partners would fully make up their lost sales to the US within one year, and 115 would do so within five years." www.ft.com/content/1efd...

How a president hoping to fund his government with tariffs and possibly annex Canada instead wrecked the economy and set continentalism back for almost a century. Excellent thread.
In 1890, the Tariff Act came into place in the United States. It placed tariffs on imports of up to 50%.
While touted as a way to build American industry, there was also the hope it would force an annexation of Canada. It backfired.
Let's learn more.

75 years of US electricity production!

I've updated these charts to include 2024.

Total is ↑ 3.1% from 2023, tho just 2.3% from 2022.

Solar ↑ from 5.6% of total in 2023 to 6.9% in 2024.

Hydro ↓ to 5.5% of total, lowest % since basically forever.

Wind ↑ slightly. Oil dipped below geothermal. 🔌💡

Does anyone know if S&P or Woodmac is more accurate when it comes to future power load, demand, and installed capacity projections?

Great chart by @chartrdaily showing electricity demand by state for data centers. Virginia is by far the biggest market, with Texas not too terribly far behind. Organized electric markets, proximity to demand, and ease of interconnection are (I'm sure) top drivers. #energysky 🔌💡

~30.3x LTM P/E and 2.3X rate base as of 30-Sep-24. Pretty solid valuation for $AEP in this minority sale transaction. Utilities are definitely hot right now!

Bull case for NG demand is clear but there are downside mechanisms worth flagging. CAISO saw ~30Bcf of lost gas burn due to BESS in the first 8 months of ‘24. Think this trend only expands as BESS proliferates in other parts of N.A like Texas or Alberta
