I’d put DeRo ahead of Benteke tbh
@jalapinho.bsky.social summarized Benteke’s impact well. He stuck the landing with this sentence “But for years, one man carried the weight of the world. And that alone secures Christian Benteke’s place in DC United history.”

It was an absolute joy to watch him play in DC. He was absolute class.
For three turbulent seasons, Christian Benteke didn’t just lead the line for D.C. United — he carried the entire attack on his back. Goals, grit, and professionalism in the club’s darkest stretch. An era ends.

MLS Pressure. Fans need to pressure MLS. Expansion is nearly over, if it isn’t already. They won’t be able to afford to have teams so ineptly managed. If they want to grow MLS, they can’t have one of the biggest soccer markets be a complete dumpster fire.

Best player? Idk he’s a one trick pony who needs quality around him to do more and better tricks. If the club is serious about “rebuilding” they’ll have to sign quality to make the club better or help Benteke be successful. Either way it’ll cost money too do both.
If Benteke isn't attached to living in DC, why would he re-sign with DC United at a lower, non-DP salary when he could get that same $ from an MLS team that might win something next year?

Sure looks like DC United are about to lose their best player.
As expected, D.C. United declines Christian Benteke’s contract option, making him a free agent, but “we remain in discussions regarding a potential return.”

DCU also declines options on Kristian Fletcher, Randall Leal, Derek Dodson and Rida Zouhir but in talks with Fletcher.

2024-2025 offseason in hindsight looks a lot worse now lol. The brain trust really screwed the pooch this time around. They undid everything only to do everything again and leave it a lot worse.

But the only thing important here is where they go to play their preseason.
As for the rest of the roster decisions, unfortunately they are all on the margins (except Pirani). DCU is locked into the contracts they'd love to move on from (Enow, Peltola, Herrera, Kim, Bartlett)

The right fan pressure would help..
Here's what depresses me most:

I see no realistic scenario where this ownership group sells.

Like, what would it take for them to walk away?

Don't say, fan pressure because they seem to just ignore that.
I’m out. First time without season tickets since 1997. Sell our team.

We did it!
D.C. United has done it! They've secured the Wooden Spoon as the worst team in MLS in 2025!

This is a trophy secured by a club culture set from the top down.

With the entire scouting department let go by a new Managing Director, we may be witnessing a true dynasty forming in D.C.

It’s going to be an interesting winter and summer transfers window.
It’s finally over, thank you merciful God.

We are officially the very worst team in MLS. NO one can take that away from us. One more show on Monday and then Ted and Jon will go sit in the woods for months in silence.

It’s safe to say DC has the most loses since this ownership took control.
Nine-man D.C. shows character in the second half against drab Charlotte and loses by just the one goal.

United finishes 2-8-7 at home for 13 of possible 51 points.

The past two years DCU is 6-16-12 at Audi Field (30 of 102 points).

Shots fired
René Weiler did not mince words.

When I asked about the struggles of winning at home this season, including only winning once (in a friendly) with him as @dcunitedofficial.bsky.social's head coach, Weiler had this to say:

It depends how DC is set up to play next year? Can’t have a possession base team with Benteke and can’t have a BennyBall esque team and resort Benteke to a Pajoy like forward(Defensive forward).
Let's say that United does sign some amazing attacking talent in the offseason. It can be a 10, a winger, a striker, whatever. Who in your opinion might be the current player to benefit most? Benteke? Pirani? Peglow? Stroud? Hopkins? Barraza?

More grit is the solution?
#DCU is really missing Hopkins. His incredible work ethic, ground coverage, and front press really helps disrupt teams. Philly controlling the middle of the field and breezing past their midfield and defense.

"We made a lot of wrong decisions" defending.

Asked about what he can take from the team's emotional reaction to the Union's goals late in the first half, & he said "got some confirmations" about things within the team.

Going badly enough for DCU that Farr, after briefly remonstrating with Peltola & others, went to Benteke to bring him back to help remonstrate, which Benteke obliged.

5-0 Union. Sons of Ben can be heard audibly doing chugging contests.

Vibe shift for Audi in the next 16 hours will be incredible.
