And now, a note on Bill Owens who, until this past week, was the executive producer of 60 Minutes.

We’ll be back next week with another edition of 60 Minutes.

If Oct. 7 had never happened, Trump would right now be pulling funding from Columbia and Harvard because of DEI policies or admissions requirements or what research they were doing or all of the above. The right hates universities and that’s it.

Today Donald Trump attacked me by name in a speech at the Department of Justice. Of course I am worried, but courage comes from acting in spite of being worried. I have made my choice: I will continue to speak out, I will continue to litigate, I will continue to stand tall.

I will never bow down.

“Those nasty Canadians are ripping us off and are controlled by Mexican cartels. They’re poisoning us with fentanyl and need to become the 51st state or they will pay a high price” is a belief that literally ZERO Americans had six weeks ago. It’s entirely invented from scratch.

This feels like a sort of carnival-week funeral for the US republic. Beneath deep anger at Trump's orgy of vandalism and self-worship, I feel deep sadness. What a train wreck of a superpower.

If I were a Democratic (or Republican, or independent member of Congress), I would not attend Trump’s speech tonight.

But disrupting seems foolish.

Just don’t go. Let Democratic “leadership” attend, since for some reason they’ve decided they have to. But let leadership be there alone.

This is the most right wing newspaper in the UK.

Extraordinary.

The reason this is such a big deal is that Trumpism, an ideology of pathological insecurity and bullying, requires you to submit. When you don’t submit, it calls everything about them into question, and they can’t handle that. So don’t submit. Defy the fascist scum.
Zelensky should apologize for his dispute with Trump and Vance at the White House, says U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio: “He didn’t need to go there and be hostile. I think he should apologize for wasting our time on a meeting that was bound to end this way.”

While watching that horrifying, globe-shifting exchange with Zelenkskyy, I couldn't help but think about what a deliberately staged reality-TV moment it was, with two people ganging up on one and screaming a classic, totally petulant reality-TV accusation: They hadn't been thanked enough.

No, the meeting did not go badly for Ukraine. It exposed in the most undeniable, unequivocal way possible the pro-Putin commitments of the president and vice president. That was information Americans and allies needed to have clear before them.

Everyone knows what happened here. Trump can only exist around people he can causally humiliate. Guys lie JD and Rubio. He wanted to do a ritual humiliation of Zelensky and Ukraine but Zelensky wouldn’t accept that and so Trump reacted like a stung bitch.

In light of the disgraceful behavior by the president and vice president, every elected official, Republicans and Democrats alike, should step up to speak for freedom and the truth. If you're elected by the American people, you have some standing to try to save what can be saved of America's honor.

Trumpism and Muskism are similar in that both rely on a shitposting ethos: just spout stuff and keep spouting stuff, don’t think about whether it’s true, the point is to keep spouting stuff. It’s a nihilistic worldview that treats truth with contempt.
Elon Musk falsely accused prominent lawyer and CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen of leading a “crime family” after he discovered a woman with the same last name who worked for an organization that accepted funds from USAID.

The only problem? The woman, Tamar Eisen, is of no relation to Norm Eisen.
