Hello to all of my new followers! You should know that while I always try to be respectful, I am an Exmormon who sometimes will rant about the actions of the church and its members. I don’t like to criticize someone’s belief systems without their consent, so consider this your warning.
What are some silly things that we’re all living for right now? Two of mine are Tuesday night Food Network shows and the Animal Crossing update that comes out in January. Oh and I’m really excited to see Wicked tomorrow and to eat pumpkin pie next week.

In which we’re suddenly getting not so subtle texts from people we haven’t seen in years snooping around because they know our boy just graduated and they haven’t heard anything about a mission. 🙄 They aren’t as subtle with their “Hey, we’ve been thinking about you guys…” as they think they are.

So we got thrown a major potential life curveball this morning, and then we went to a private viewing at the movie theater this afternoon, our first time in a theater since 2020. Life was weird today, guys. I’m still processing.

Meanwhile on Reddit… apparently cutesy poems with tortured metaphors and poor meter make up for generational trauma from polygamy as long as there are cookies and nothing actually uncomfy gets discussed (it looks like avoidance was the word of the day in many wards. I get it. Dissonance is hard).

A reminder for a Sunday morning: If you have to do damage control every Sunday afternoon because of what is being taught to your children at church, the time may have come to ask yourself, to what end? If you don’t believe the teachings, then what even is the point? (D&C 132 has entered the chat)

I had a dream about fascism and woke up sobbing, so here’s a reminder that our bodies “keep the score” and contain within them enormous amounts of hidden stress and anxiety in times like these. Be kind to yourself, take mental health breaks, and adapt aggressive self care. We’re all so tired.

Quadrupling down on video game playing in this house because we just basically can’t tolerate anything else right now. Also playing video games, board games, reading, and playing musical instruments all stave off dementia, and we do all of those things in this home, so… science. That’s right.

The Mormon tendency to look for signs and then think that everything is a message from heaven and is all about them… I have a friend who is completely convinced that the Aurora last night was a message from her dead husband and her family and friends are perpetuating it, and I’m a bit concerned.

We were all set to watch the Eagles game, including having made food, only to discover that it’s on ABC/ESPN, which YouTube TV (we dumped Hulu) has temporarily dropped because Disney sucks. My disappointment is immeasurable. End these stupid monopolies, please.

I get asked from time to time since leaving the LDS church what I believe in now. The answer, which was reiterated this week when I had a strong impression that I would have once attributed to the spirit, is me. I believe in me. Those promptings? They’ve been me this whole time.
