Yerba mate makes the third-most popular caffeinated drink in the world, but it’s unrelated to tea and coffee. The first reconstruction of its genome is helping us understand how multiple species have evolved to synthesise caffeine.

Excited to share our paper with Anna Gardner and @florianabusch.bsky.social in Plant Ecophysiology!🌿

We review challenges in interpreting plant stress responses using gas exchange data, offer solutions to improve accuracy and discuss gaps in our current knowledge.

The strain on scientific publishing: we set out to characterise the remarkable growth of the scientific literature in the last few years, in spite of declining growth in total scientists. What is going on?

Hi there! I want to show you a cool feature on SorghumBase.org, a permanently-funded genomic and genetic database for people who work in the globally important crop sorghum.

You can search for gene models that have germplasm with disruptive SNPs and quickly order them from seed repositories. 🧵

Very sad to hear of the passing of Joanne Chory, who was an iconic scientist and person. Truly, one can say she spent her whole career trying to make a better planet and a better environment in science for all.

“I’m excited that people are finally letting us remind them that plants exist and that they are here for a reason,” says Professor Joanne Chory, plant geneticist at the Plant Biology Group of the Salk...

Starting ~2012, I used to write quite a bit about ag-related issues (GMO, pesticides, etc). Due to time constraints, my writing mostly stopped by 2020. I'm going to try and find time to start writing again. I think data-driven discussion of ag topics is going to be important over the next few years.
