Yes, I am a diplomat. Yes, I'm annoyed. No, I'm not Keri Russell.
Don't give her any ideas.

A large chunk of Americans are deeply offended by the idea that they might ever be subject to any non-US law. It's not just an American thing, actually, but it's more pronounced in the US than elsewhere.

Money is the primary thing that keeps Schumer in his leadership seat. (Same with Gillibrand, Durbin, and Schatz. There's a reason those positions go to people who don't have to worry about funding for their own campaigns.) There's nothing Schumer fears more than an upset major donor.

I don't know Kiley's position on the shutdown, but given Johnson's fragile control over his caucus the third funniest possible outcome still may be in play.

The level of discourse I bring to things

A saying I use quite a bit at work:
"It's not that they're bad at their job. It's that they think they have a completely different job than you do."

Schumer thinks his job is to hold on to his leadership post, and he's been pretty successful at doing that. He doesn't much care about the rest.
November 11, 2025 at 9:59 PM
I mean, if I were Schumer I'd have used the really massive leverage he has at his disposal to keep his caucus in line.

But that's just me.
November 11, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Those fights aren't as public, but Schumer's shown more than once that he'll go to the mat to keep his leadership of the caucus, and hasn't lost on that front yet.

He's just completely uninterested in fighting for anything that doesn't benefit him personally.

Pritzker really doesn't deserve any of the goodwill he's gotten.

This is a straightforward lie from @govpritzker.illinois.gov @jbpritzker.bsky.social, and confirmation that all of his tough talk is empty posturing. He's not standing up for anyone; he's hoping to trick presidential primary voters.

It's long past time to call him out for what he is.
“This is my ward! This is my ward!” Rodriguez (22nd) chirps back as Sigcho-Lopez (25th) grills Gov., saying, “the State Police are arresting protesters.”

“They’re protecting our protesters,” Gov. JB Pritzker responds.

If this is his strategy, it's incredibly foolish. As bad as the Nat Guard deployment is in DC, they're not even in the same ballpark as ICE, CBP and other feds in terms of actual threat. The Nat Guard are here to intimidate people. ICE and CBP are here to disappear people.

bsky.app/profile/mske...
I realize that it's part of the governor's strategy to keep the National Guard at bay, but facilitating a violent, occupying force to keep another arm of the occupation at bay is not the only strategy, and it's one worthy of critique. Also, all state charges against protesters should be dropped NOW.

Senate Dems are quiet because Schumer controls a lot of campaign money, and none of them want to see a well-funded primary challenger. They all need to be persuaded that failing to remove him as Minority Leader is the bigger risk to their careers.
“If Schumer really wanted to use his considerable influence and leverage to stop this, he could have done that,” a senior Democratic Senate aide tells Zeteo. “He didn’t.”

This is 💯 consistent with what little I know of you from listening to Weird Little Guys.

There are certainly some fighters in the Senate--Warren, Van Hollen, etc. But Schumer's making it almost impossible to do anything effective.

Jeffries has to go as well, though if he holds his caucus together against the House vote on this thing, I'd argue to focus on Schumer until primary season.

Primaries are crucial, and that should absolutely happen. But everything @ezralevin.bsky.social says here makes it absolutely clear that we cannot afford another year with Schumer in any leadership position. Get him out now.

bsky.app/profile/anno...
Absolutely this.

My guess is that the best next step would be for @ezralevin.bsky.social and @leahgreenberg.bsky.social to launch a national campaign via @indivisible.org to make this happen.

I'll get back to "party unity" when the rest of Senate Dem caucus removes him as Minority Leader. I don't care how he voted; he needs to be out of leadership.
November 10, 2025 at 11:39 PM
"Getting back to fighting united" implies that the Senate Dem leadership and caucus were fighting and not surrendering, which is obviously not true.

Whitehouse is asking voters to "get past internal recriminations" so that he and his friends can go back to surrendering without facing their anger.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.
