Thanks Jackie, great guests and heartwarming to see so many familiar faces in the audience - all there for Seán Rocks.
A beautiful tribute to Seán Rocks @dublinbookfest.bsky.social chaired brilliantly by
@paulashields.bsky.social with Kathleen MacMahon, Kevin Barry, Paula Meehan and Colm Mac Con Iomaire who finished the event with The Finnish Line which he said was a song of joy for Seán who was full of joy❤️

Two months to the deadline for abstracts for ‘James Joyce in Relation: Gender, Labour, Legacy’. We invite feminist, queer, intersectional & transnational work that rethinks Joyce’s relations with his women contemporaries & interrogates reception, networks & the gendered infrastructures of modernism.
CFP: James Joyce in Relation: Gender, Labour, Legacy, a special issue of Feminist Modernist Studies, guest edited by Ronan Crowley & myself. Please take a look at the CFP and send your proposals our way. Proposals from non-Joyceans are ESPECIALLY welcome:

Incredibly, NONE of the broadsheets reported the death of the great Jamaican-born theatre pioneer Yvonne Brewster, or ran an obit.

Here's a fitting tribute... please share and let's celebrate this giant of British theatre. 🙏 💪

Tony Harrison’s 1977 The Mysteries was a massive @nationaltheatre.org.uk hit that I missed. But I loved his adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Le Roi s’amuse, better known as Verdi’s Rigoletto. It was a flop but I’ve never forgotten it, esp. Richard Eyre’s staging and Bob Crowley’s set.
Tony Harrison RIP.

I’m desperately sad to hear that Tony Harrison has died. He was one of the first poets I ever saw read – in Leeds in the 1980s. But also, his was such a unique and powerful voice, and his blend of classicism and class consciousness remains potent - although he was much more than that as a poet.
