Remember when “death panels” was a Republican talking point against expanding health insurance coverage with Obamacare?

Now, cutting coverage and actually sending people to their death is a policy position of the Republican Party.

Burcum: ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ takes hatchet to health care
Newly passed U.S. House reconciliation legislation could result in punishing coverage losses, more red tape and — perhaps surprisingly — property tax hikes, writes columnist Jill Burcum.

We made a deliberate choice as a nation, until now, not to have a police state. We siloed off federal data and put in place laws, regulations, policies and internal norms to prevent the federal government from putting together everything it knows about you into one place.

Trump is ending all that.

If you are actively culling your library to keep books like "The Bell Curve" while removing criticisms of the book, you are building a white supremacist library.
Adolf Hitler's “Mein Kampf” is still on U.S. Naval Academy shelves. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Memorializing the Holocaust” are not.

An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office led to a purge of books that are critical of racism — but preserved volumes defending white power.

They are lying about preserving critical services. They have no proof this isn't just inept indiscriminate, or worse- intentional, destruction of systems that keep us safe. Push them to respond with their plan and evidence, not just empty platitudes
President Donald Trump and his allies have sliced billions of dollars and tens of thousands of staff from agencies focused on health and safety, and appear to go against Trump’s repeated campaign promises to make Americans healthier and safer.
Worries grow over risks to Americans as Trump cuts health, safety agencies

This seems to have pierced through the collective consciousness because people see the direct connection with their bills and retirement. But really, this is how they are running the whole government. This is DOGE and downsizing. Its all a mixture of radicals, conspiracy cranks and know-nothings.
I don’t think people realize how bad it’s going to get tomorrow when Wall Street finally collectively realizes that these people have no idea how economics work, and then it’s gonna be a scramble to not be the one left holding the bag.

People who appease authoritarians always wind up being left alone after that, right? That’s how it works? You knuckle under once, and they don’t ask you to compromise your morals again.

I assume that’s what all of history and political science suggest, or why do it, right?

The bill was referred to the committee I chair, I won’t be scheduling it for a hearing. We do important work in SenateHHS and listen to Minnesotans who come to us with urgent needs for better access to mental health care. Trivializing a serious issue to make a point is disrespectful & disheartening.
Five Minnesota Senate Republicans are seeking to dub “Trump derangement syndrome," a term coined to describe a form of criticism of President Donald Trump, as an official mental illness recognized under state statute.
