Took this emerald gem off the loom this week. Gonna make it into a new collar for my kitty Grimoire, who has rejected several collars recently. #weaving #RovingCat #inkleloom #cat

"Maybe I'm not actually a good writer" she wonders as she teaches writing and writes on a novel every day.

Porch Cat is such a great work companion. He adores typing but doesn't walk on keyboards. He just chills on his bed where he can feel the keyboard and tells me to keep typing.

Something that has been confusing me when I do my grocery shopping: organic produce is marketed as "greener" and "healthier" but it seems to involve a LOT more plastic packaging than the other produce. Aren't the same people worried about organic also worried about plastic touching food?

Today's strategy for making online teaching work: speaking my students' names as I type my responses to their work.
(I also have a notes document open where I'm making observations on the class as a whole)

This was very helpful for me. Combined with the 5 Calls app, I've made my calls today. It feels like speaking into the wind but it's what I know I can do.
If you need help knowing what to say and how, this is a great start (and links numbers). Plus it helps to call on speaker so you can easily have a script in front of you. The numbers of callers matter more than what you say; don't stress over being "good at it."
Here's the script, folks. It's now or never.

Capitol switchboard: (202) 224-3121

Local office numbers: www.congress.gov/members/find...

RTs appreciated.

So apparently NaNoWriMo is completely shutting down.
I'm glad I quit on my own terms last year, but can someone help me figure out how to download/back up all my old project information?
There's 20 years of stuff there, and while I won't lose any drafts, I'd like to have the stats.

Is this a generational shift or...?
My feedback from students on my courses this quarter is consistently asking for MORE group work.
Student me avoided group work like the plague.
Anyone else seeing this?

Seattle culture means people would rather stand on the bus than sit next to a stranger, and I think that's beautiful.

It's not perfect, but F11 is my best productivity tip.

Really annoying that the consequences of finishing a day is that you have to do another one.

I secretly fantasize about being a professional "agony aunt". I want people to write me anonymous letters asking for advice and then I do a column/podcast/vlog where I give them advice. I think I'd be good at it, but I have no idea how to monetize or start.

The past 7 days have been so many stressful (but hopeful) moments for me personally and now I'm sitting here trying to decompress so I can focus. Brain is like a butterfly right now.

Today's commute thought: how many of these fellow human beings walking these Seattle sidewalks or taking this train have I interacted with online and we wouldn't know each other's faces?

Ok, I'm all on board for this not buying stuff on Feb. 28, but I have some real questions. Mostly, how is it an expectation that we all buy stuff every single day? I spend money perhaps 2x/ week, usually just 1x, so it's not really asking much of me to skip 1 day.

Calling yourself a king doesn't make you a king. Collecting a magic mirror, a magic shield, and a magic chest of gold coins does.
Calling yourself a king doesn't make you a king. Watery tarts handing out swords does.
Calling yourself a king doesn't make you a king. Accidentally drinking the previous king does.

Porch Cat has been wearing his handwoven cotton collar for YEARS. Literally. I think 4 years? It's curling a little but otherwise in very good condition.
I sell my crafts because I know they're durable and good quality.

I really wish I was as assertive as dream me. Dream me can be a jerk, but she speaks up for herself in ways I literally can only dream of.
Last night's dream, she literally told a guy to eff off because he asked for free labor. She threw an event into chaos because a leader was being sexist.

Real question: do hiring committees/ tenure reviews ever look at Rate My Professor ratings and comments?
I know sometimes student evaluations are considered.

My students are just starting a unit in which they are doing rhetorical analysis of a song.
All the discourse about Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance couldn't be better timed for them. So many examples!

I know multifactor authentication is important for security but I'm really tired of having to keep getting on my phone to log in for stuff for work. I'm like "yay time to work"and then suddenly I'm on TikTok. It's killing my productivity.
My brain says phone is personal time.
