I am currently listening to interviews we conducted of incarcerated disabled Black boys and what they are telling us is how being excluded from Black excellence often made them a target for harm from adults in schools. Black excellence can be wielded as an ableist anti-black weapon.
I think a lot about how Black educators (myself included!) perpetuate the notion of ‘Black excellence’ with Black students.

Black children do not need to be ‘excellent’ to be treated like children. They shouldn’t need to be ‘excellent’ to be treated with dignity, respect, and humanity.
I am more interested in the traditions of Black love, grace, and mercy than the slogan “Black excellence.” Virtuosity is as virtue does.

The complying in advance is (almost?) more horrifying
And most folks are treating these decrees like they're legitimate, that they have actual legal force, instead of what they are: the cartoonish ravings of a wannabe dictator, blurting out whatever random shit careens into his lizard brain
he thinks he’s king. he issues executive orders (royal decrees) and the entire society is expected to obey

You don’t have to report to social media what organizing you are doing! That might not be the smart or secure thing to do!!

I repeat:

One thing I think we need to grapple with more is how social conservative and fiscal conservative grievances have been collapsed in the conservative mind into the feminization of bureaucracy and regulation. Any rules or enforcement mechanisms—and administrative state itself—are all cast as women.

Please understand something.

The Trump administration knows if courts enforce the law this anti-trans executive order is dead on arrival.

They want you to obey in advance, which will make courts less likely to enforce the law.

When men act like feminism is a favor they are doing for women who should be lauding them for it, that's where the ick comes in.

Right. As you say that, a gut check on feminist men is always how deeply they understand thay feminism frees us all, that men are negatively impacted by patriarchy, and that changing men's interactions with each other and understanding structural power is where the work is.

Library purchases are purchases. They pay the press. The press counts them towards advances and royalties. And (gasp) the book is in a library!! It’s wonderful and no one should ever feel bad about getting a book through a library instead of buying it.
I got it from my local library system, which has 28 physical copies (more than half are checked out) and 4 audiobooks. The branch library is two blocks from my house so I get most of my books from there. Hope this helps because I loved the book - I'm not a historian and knew nothing of that period.

lol all teachers know using chat gpt does not equate to ai literacy
No, they're not caught between anything. Stop it. The fact that AI may be used or useful in future jobs does not create a single dilemma at all for college students in how to actually complete their coursework. This is all nonsense & excuses for not doing the reading & learning how to think & write.
College students caught between professors' AI bans and employers' growing demand for AI skills
Research shows 75% of workers now use artificial intelligence on the job, yet many universities still classify its use as cheating.

sounds like a way to manufacture consent to heavily crack down on anyone who expresses discontent about health insurance companies like they did with that woman in Florida.
"Due to widespread public support of the incident, law enforcement and others associated with Mangione's arrest are likely at a higher risk of targeting," the bulletin said.

a school I was at transformed the defunct library into a game room for behavior incentives and we were told to have classroom libraries instead--a huge insult to librarianship
I will never, ever, ever shut up about the fact that true, working school libraries are all but extinct in the Philadelphia School District. Two full-time school librarians, 216 schools, ~117k kids. TWO. Most of my students have never met a school librarian. #phled
Every single school should have a library & a librarian, to help every single child find the books that will make them readers, and give them all the lifelong benefits of literacy. Libraries & librarians change children's lives FOREVER!

Begging folks to read up on the origin of identity politics from the combahee river collective
All the Democrats handwringing about "identity politics" is anti-Black as fuck given that for racists "identity politics" was a dog whistle for "Black people stuff," even as it has expanded to include "trans people stuff." And that's WILD given that Black people are their most reliable voting bloc.
