Cycles a bit, runs a bit, walks a bit. Stockport County, local stuff (Stockport & Manchester), environment & a bit of politics
A new walk for Stockport? It will be interesting to see if this makes any difference at all to what is already in place #mereseyvalleyway www.theguardian.com/environment/...

There's a pavement meant for pedestrians to walk on underneath those cars. Location: corner of A6/Alldis Street, Great Moor. Grrr! #pavementparking @stockportcouncil.bsky.social

This absolute turnip lives in Mississippi.

He's LITERALLY an economic migrant.

Does he have ZERO self-awareness?

Does he just think nobody will notice?

Or because he's an entitled white man, does he perhaps believe that he doesn't count?

When did #pavementparking become part of learning how to drive? Maybe the driving instructor needs a driving test resit?

🧐 Reform UK and climate change denialism again?

Really dislike NYT's framing of Toronto's bike lane battle.

Rather than "drivers vs. cyclists," this is a fight over whether Torontonians themselves can decide how to use their streets.

City council voted 21 to 5 against Ford's push to kill bike lanes. You think those 21 represent cyclists alone?!

Strange how any negative framing of auto culture is automatically anti-car & radical yet the billions of dollars spent on reckless car ads and auto first infrastructure isn't framed as anti-pedestrian, anti-bike, anti-transit, anti-person, anti-senior, anti-child or anti-planet.

“Car dependency is harmful for everyone, yet we force people into driving by failing to provide safe walking routes or reliable public transport to the places we all need to go - school, work, the shops, the GP. This doesn’t just isolate people – it…traps them in poverty and poor health”

For 175 years, public libraries, despite often steeply declining Govt support, have served the educational, information and entertainment needs of the general public. Staffed by a committed national family of workers determined to transform the life chances of some 7.3mill people.Oh, and it's free.
So,as a little thought-experiment, tell me something about the United Kingdom that works well and is actually quite impressive. I am not trying to sound like some boosterish politician. I just genuinely believe that making people believe that all is lost is a convenient pretext for shady characters.

4️⃣Sideline wider truth: EV fires 5-6x *less* likely🙊

The great thing about cars is you can just chuck them anywhere without consequences.

Can’t find space in 1 of the council funded parking docks? But you still want to go shopping & you’re too lazy & ignorant to walk a little bit further?

No worries! Just abandon your car in the middle of the road.

My mum's ebike allows her to continue riding now that she's in her 70s.
Please don't conflate them with emotorbikes or unrestricted ebikes - they open cycling up as a viable option to so many more people.
