What follows if we imagine rivers as having lives, deaths––& even rights?
I wrote this essay about water & hope; imagining rivers “otherwise”; nature’s rights; grammars of animacy; & how our fate flows with that of rivers—& always has.
It’s from Is A River Alive?

You mean we are a mixture of Celts, Romans, Scandinavians, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings as well as European and Commonwealth Country citizens.

We are mongrels with no “pure” ethnicity! And the better for it.

Remember original humans would not have survived without the Neanderthals.

For some reason there is a huge emotional investment in humans being cannibals in the past. When I question this in my first year classes, people sometimes get angry. I haven't figured it out. 🏺🧪
🏺 Cannibalism is incredibly tricky to interpret, and I don't think available evidence here = single event "massacre". Dating could span generations, & the fact cannibalism in British BA isn't common elsewhere doesn't imply *this* case is from a violent conflict.
