To help right this wrong, you can support the @brownmediaarchives.bsky.social restoration of the '80s alternative music doc "Athens, GA: Inside Out" that features an amazing live performance by the Flat Duo Jets: give.uga.edu/funders/insi.... Great band, great film, great archive.

I also DIY digitized about five mini DV tapes from late ‘80s to mid ‘90s from my childhood and burst into tears at the moment I heard the voices of my deceased grandparents.

TL;DR — save your home movies, especially when they are on videotape. Two of the other mini DV tapes had already degraded.

I bought it. You should too. Dorothy's work is an inspiration.
I am beyond excited (and nervous!) to announce that my first book, "The House Archives Built and Other Thoughts on Black Archival Possibilities" is available for sale!

Ah, a journalism program that doesn't want its students to publish news. I am very disappointed in my alma mater. And more than a bit heartbroken.
Indiana University has fired the staff director of the student newspaper, after disputes in which university leadership tried to pressure him to prevent students from publishing news.

The power of synchronicity when doing research. I randomly purchased the April 1952 "Popular Photography" from eBay for a project where I'm tracking the number of companies that were selling commercial films to the home market. This issue is not digitized as far as I can tell.

Will McKinley's thread of public media job losses is sobering & depressing reading, but it's absolutely crucial to track the cultural and educational destruction that the current administration is purposely creating.
34 PBS staffers will lose their jobs this week, part of a 15% workforce reduction that will eliminate 100 jobs.

And additional layoffs are happening at stations around the country, with many "in danger of shutting down."

Absolutely essential reading for archivists and folks interested in thinking about how we create the past. Can't wait to read it!
Excited to finally announce the release of my first ever book, and the first ever book from we here press. It is a pocket-size guide to my archival theories and experiences in the form of essays- some you may have heard in part as lectures, some which are unpublished until now.
