The second researcher who joined the DiⒶgnostic project at the beginning of October is Dr Adrian Doyle (see his University of Galway website: research.universityofgalway.ie/en/persons/a...). In addition to having studied Old Irish, Adrian also has a background in programming.

This is shockingly sad news. Among the countless incredible achievements and qualities of Andrew West 魏安 was also his foundational and inspirational contribution to the digitisation of ogam.

I'm always intrigued by how we approach and judge language tools for Irish, and by the sociolinguistic and technical factors at play. I think a major issue is that many Irish tools are not built for speaker communities, but trained on legal jargon and caighdeán to support mandated translation tasks.
There's a 'chatgpt' called Gael GPT set up for the #Irishlanguage, and it's an absolute pile of rubbish. Incorrect constantly as suspected. Don't bother wasting your time. Mess. Surprised it's being promoted.

The discovery of the oldest known facial bones from a hominin from Western Europe, approximately 1.4–1.1 million years old, is reported in @nature.com.

A Homo aff. erectus individual dated to 1.4 million to 1.1 million years ago found at Sima del Elefante (Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain) does not display the modern-human-like aspect of Homo antecessor found at the neighbouring Gran Dolina site (900,000–800,000 years ago).
