#EpiDoc
EpiDoc is the de facto standard for digital encoding of epigraphy, papyrology and other ancient or historical text-bearing objects.

Basically, if your object is as important as your text then EpiDoc may be the flavour of TEI XML for you. (Books, ecclectic editions of manuscripts etc maybe less so.)

Have been looking today at insaph.kcl.ac.uk/iaph2007/ which has approx 1500 Greek inscriptions (in #EpiDoc) browsable via various indexes and concordances. The website is slightly shaky, and maps and search no longer work as designed.

What if a letter is incomplete and could therefore be read as any of several potential letters?

My first blog post for the #OG_H_AM blog! I wrote about one of my favourite topics: #textencoding - how to make historical texts machine-readable by encoding texts in #XML. I also give an overview of the #TEI and #EpiDoc #Guidelines, the international standards for encoding texts and inscriptions.
This month's #OG_H_AM blog is online! @trishaoconnor88.bsky.social
has written a history of encoding and explains how marking-up with XML following TEI or Epidoc guidelines makes historical texts machine-readable. ogham.glasgow.ac.uk/index.php/20...
