1️⃣ Buffalo jails is notoriously deadly for people who are locked in.

And little has changed under the new GOP sheriff, despite a lot of talk, @rainalips.bsky.social And yet, he's running unopposed:
There’s a New Sheriff in Town. But Buffalo Area Jails Remain as Dangerous as Ever. - Bolts
Despite federal oversight, elections, and promises of reform from a new sheriff, little has changed for people detained in Erie County jails.

Venus Williams has Sjögren’s syndrome.

Linking health care with jobs means people with disabilities or chronic illnesses either cannot quit working or face not being able to have health insurance because they can’t work.

Now remember that 300,000 Black women lost jobs in the last 3 months.
Venus Williams just won her first match in two years and at the end when they were interviewing her about what a miracle it was, she said she had to come back and play a match; they told her she was on cobra and she’s always at the doctor so **she needs the health insurance**

Absolutely unhinged statement from a government agency. All that paused grant funding was highly vetted by peer reviewers. The damage being done to our science infrastructure will take decades (if we are lucky) to undo.
NIH statement, per @ryanequinn.bsky.social: "There is no Federal funding for unvetted woke 'research' at Columbia. Any minimal disbursements that presently exist are for specific measures, including to wind down the grant entirely."
