For an absolute, hopeless disaster at all things physics like me (albeit fascinated by it), this thread is pure light. Thanks for illuminating the subject, @dankaszeta.bsky.social
OK Mrs/Mr/Ms/Mx Harris. It's good of you to give me an opportunity to explain the physics of the radiation emitted by "highly enriched Uranium". In order to do this properly, I have to explain some of the concepts and units of measurement that are relevant.

"The world is facing a new form of climate denial – not the dismissal of climate science, but a concerted attack on the idea that the economy can be reorganised to fight the crisis, the president of global climate talks [i.e. COP30] has warned."

Wake up!

Even during the last interglacial (the Eemian), global Sea Surface Temperatures were likely lower than they are now.

We are rapidly barreling to a climate state unseen for millions of years. If ever.

This was such a satisfying project, and one in which I realized for the first time how much my whole life had been spent in a manscape, in places where almost everything was named after men.
#WomensHistoryMonth: The City of Women Map is a fascinating visualization of women’s history and urban transportation. Created by Molly Roy, Rebecca Solnit, and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro, the map renames subway stops after notable women with links to that area, offering an entirely new way to view #NYC.

A quick update on the total climf&%kery that's taking place.

Through March 11th, 2025, the monthly average global surface temperature for March, 2025 is the hottest on record.

The madness of this moment is going to end horrifically for most living creatures. And that is incredibly sad.

We found some of these, though without bronze. It was a very, very odd feeling. They are beautifully made, with multi-process craftsmanship. The sclera was white marble, carefully carved and smoothed to shape, with a high polish to the surface, and the corners of the eyes delicately painted 1/

Here's a graph showing the 365-day running average for the number of standard deviations of the global mean surface temperature from the 1941-1970 mean.

The planet is currently running 8.49σ above the 1941-1970 mean. The chances of this happening at random are about 1-in-42,735,000,000,000,000.

Artist’s painting of an acrobatic dancer, c. 1292 - 1077 BC.

Away from the constraints of formal tomb art, an ancient Egyptian artist chose to spend their free time painting this beautiful image on a limestone flake.
