Hi Bluesky! I’m a police misconduct and prison justice lawyer in #yyc. I follow and follow back public interest lawyers and folks interested in prison reform/abolition and police accountability/defunding. Canada-specific is a bonus.

Finding common ground in politics is hard.

That's why I'm grateful for Dave Cree's Ward 8 endorsement.

We want to move Calgary forward by lifting people up - regardless of identity, income, or background.

Now is our chance to tell the province we value independent municipal leaders.

More bike lanes = less congestion.

But we have to invest in making them a safe mode of transportation for all Calgarians.

Think they cost too much?

I invite you to come for a bike ride with me and see the difference they can make 1/

My Jewish husband was once asked if I was Palestinian, as though he must have a personal connection to the rights of Palestinians in order to care about them.

(My ancestors were Ukrainian/Austrian/British and not even slightly Palestinian)
I’m Jewish and my husband is Palestinian; our daughter is both Jewish and Palestinian. An amazing thing that happens with some frequency is that some Jewish people, upon learning this, will take my pro-Palestine position less seriously because “it’s personal” for me.

As someone who uses the FOIP process frequently (and engages in hair-tearing about it)…quelle surprise! </s>

This is the best possible outcome of the Canadian election. Libs need 4 more seats to have the majority of the vote, meaning they need to court the NDP for their 7 seats to remain in power. NDP pull the libs to the left and we get actual good shit like pharmacare.

AB lawyers on Bluesky! Have you already protested the UCP govt’s appropriation of Alberta Law Foundation funding? The govt wants to control how interest on our trust accounts is used. It’s NOT THEIR MONEY. Take a few minutes to call your MLA! action.albertalawfoundation.org

So basically the UCP is appropriating non-public dollars by telling the Alberta Law Foundation how it can spend its funding, which it gets from interest accrued on lawyers’ trust accounts.

I can barely imagine a more traumatizing way to spend the third trimester of pregnancy. Except, notably, to be without medical care in a war zone, which is the reality for pregnant people in Gaza.

I paid $300 for the RSV shot while my baby was in utero. It boggles my mind it isn’t free, given how severe we know RSV can be in newborns.
Alberta is expanding free access to a vaccine for RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) to older adults.

Anyone 70 or older can now get it for free.

For others, including pregnant people, it's still $300 a pop.

(In the U.S., the vaccine is recommended in pregnancy to protect newborns.)
